EXE Home: Splinter Cell Double Agent

Double Agent's AI seems like the exact same it was on the Xbox 360. This is painfully obvious in the worst of the daylight missions, as guards will instantly realize where you are and shoot back instantly without even looking for you. This can cause a ton of frustrating situations, which could have been easily avoided. You'd think that the developers would have fixed this bug which was also painfully present in Chaos Theory. Speaking of which, a ton of sounds also carries over from Chaos Theory, and for fans of the series this might be a slight annoyance. It is bad enough we had to hear the same poor enemy guard voice actors in the previous game, and now their repeated sentences carry over into this game. It’s a shame really, because the soundtrack in the game is pretty good and the main characters sound awesome.

After the 15 hours or so it normally takes to play through the single player 3 times, you can dive into the multiplayer mode. Do note the absence of several multiplayer modes, which really killed a major part of the game for me. I loved the co-op feature of Chaos Theory and so much of Ubisoft's hype was based around it, I don't see why they didn’t try to run the extra mile for us here. The multiplayer is the standard spies versus mercenaries scenario, with some new additions and subtractions. You have a brand new look to things, and it looks a bit more high tech than its predecessors. Also new is the fact that it's 3 on 3 now, not 2 on 2 as it previously was. You'll also find a couple of new balance features which really help the multiplayer along nicely. The basic scenario is still that the spies have to infiltrate a location that's under protection by the mercenaries. The spies have to use cunning and stealth to win, while the mercenaries rely on the brute force most of us know and love. The spies get the traditional bag of gadgets along with the third person view. On the otherhand, mercenaries get the hefty gun and a first person view which plays like an FPS. This variation makes the multiplayer games fun for hours on end, and both sides have their own nice touches to them. One of the nice new features is the fact that you can unlock new content as you progress in rank, and this makes for a nice persistence, which is also something that should be all games strive for.
