In 2004, Relic released a game called Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. The game received rave reviews by both media outlets and gamers alike. In 2005, the first expansion for the game, titled Winter Assault, was released. About a month ago, Relic released a second expansion pack, which they called Dark Crusade. Up until now, there has been no review of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War or any of its expansions on GotFrag, but I’m about to change that.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game based off of Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40k table-top strategy game. Dark Crusade is a stand-alone expansion which only contains the Tau and Necron races, but it allows you to enter the CD keys from the original game and Winter Assault to unlock the other five races. With the CD keys from all 3 games, you have seven races to choose from.

The game feels very much like a 3D version of Starcraft with a lot more races to choose from, each with their distinct characteristics. I’ll discuss the different races shortly.

There are only two resources in this game, and they are both gathered automatically. That means there is no need to send workers to gather resources like in other games. The two resources are Requisition and Power. Requisition can be best described as the importance of your campaign, and the support that you can receive from the higher-ups in your army. Requisition can be obtained by capturing and holding strategic points. Power is obtained by building generators. By gathering both resources, you will be able to build units and buildings.

I bought the first two as well, they were awesome. Great game if you like RTS games, the multiplayer scene is pretty well developed. I even played through the single player game which I still haven't done for starcraft or warcraft lol

err this game is DRASTICALLY different from both wc3 and starcaft. if you want to draw comparisons to any other rts, the most pertinent would be total annihilation.

if you think dawn of war in any way aped wc3, you're a huge, huge idiot.

Some would argue that Blizzard stole many of it's ideas from the WarHammer minature game that pre-dates Starcraft and Warcraft...

Decent review, tho I am a extreme favorite of the DoW and such, I only wish the writer would of explained abit more about the single player, or gave a little of the story line to interest people a bit more. Over all DoW is far better than SC and WC3, and I would recommend it to anyone whos looking for better graphics and gameplay then them.

I would just like to give a small update to my review. I want to upgrade the score to 95.

Why? I have been LANing this game almost constantly since January 1st, and it is by far one of the most awesome LAN games I have ever played.

I would also like to mention that my new favorite race is the Imperial Guard.

PS - Thank you for the kind words
