Developed by the team at Human Head, and overseen by developers from 3D Realms, Prey is a first person shooter that runs off the Doom 3 engine. You play as Tommy, a tough-skinned, bad-attitude garage mechanic, who later gets abducted onto a ‘mother ship’ orbiting Earth. Tommy is accompanied by a spirit guide named Talon. Talon is a hawk that can be perched onto a ledge, fly throughout levels to help decipher alien languages, and provide advanced scouting of future areas.

The objective of Prey is to save your girlfriend, and eventually your planet. Doing this entails a few interesting features not seen before in games. The ability to walk on walls is a new feature, along with the twist of varying gravity, and the new feature “spirit walking,” where you literally leave your body behind. On the ship, you will have to blast your way through a myriad of aliens, using an assortment of alien weapons. The developers wanted to make the weapons in the game a little more, life like you could say. Most of the weapons have a knock back effect, and feel heavier to the user.

The gameplay aspect is fueled by the story line of Tommy being a Cherokee Indian. Unlike any other FPS game, his heritage and background play a significant role throughout the story line. The multiplayer aspects have not yet been revealed. As Human Head spokesmen have already pointed out to the gaming community, they are afraid of hyping up the game just to have it flop. They would rather the demo speak for itself. However, we do know a few things about multiplayer action. The maximum number of players per game is 8. Also, during multiplayer, key single-player abilities will come into play during certain levels. For instance, some levels may have high/low gravity, while others might require more wall-walking than others would.

All in all, comparisons are going to be made to Doom 3, which will scare a lot of people away. But I encourage you to visit their website and watch the preview. If you are a big fan of first person shooters , I especially recommend checking out the site at www.prey.com.
