Pyro Studios takes their Commandos series first person.

Developer: Pyro Studios
Publisher: Eidos
Release Date: April 4, 2006

In 1998, Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines was one of the most additive and challenging RTS games on the market. It was not about building up your army or capturing resources but rather moving up to five commandos around German territory without being spotted to complete your mission.

The minds at Pyro Studios have realized that they were the only ones without a FPS WWII game in 2005 and decided not to be left out in '06. Taking off the original theme of the first Commandos game you can be a Green Beret, Sniper or a Spy depending on the mission. Some missions will require the use of all three. The missions with range from typical run and gun to stealth missions to complete your objective.

The demo can be found at their official site and will be better than any review I can give to tell you if the game is any fun or not. I found it a bit boring with very clunky game controls. Coming from a guy that has every weapon bound to its own key in UT2k4 and twenty keys bound just to play Counter Strike that is saying a lot. I still do not know what the difference between an action key and a use key is. Get the demo and try it out—this game may just not be my cup of tea.

Maybe I am just bitter because the original Commandos was such a unique RTS game, but I expected more from this demo. This could be the rare game where the full version outshines the demo but I have a feeling the next time we see a Commandos title it will be back to Real-Time Strategy.
