if you have read dagley's sogamed guides, i hope you didn't do them. half of the info in it is 100% false. the services he tells you disable will cause you to have to configure your internet manually through network options for it to even work and it disables services most need. he also tells you to make a batch file that deletes prefetch. this is wrong. there is no advantage gained by prefetch. it can only make your boot time faster but hurt your system performance. the default setting in the registry is 3, leave it there. prefetching is a good thing, let it be. The prefetching key can be found under: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl... Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters] the key is "Enable Prefetcher" default is 3, leave it there
also I would like to say gotfrag's large system cache tweak is false to. large system cache will cause problems with drivers (like ATI), apps, etc. it can only help the system if your running a machine thats running a server. like on the windows server os. so who ever is writing those tweaks I suggest you stop and do your research before posting things like that. you want your memory focused on your programs. large system cache can be found under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl... Manager\Memory Management] "LargeSystemCache" is the entry, leave it on 0 unless your running a server.
Here is a guide that will basically tweak your XP TO THE MAXIMUM. it has EVERYTHING you can think and has levels of the tweak. the levels are based on the users experience and wheather its worth it or not. i can promise this tweak guide will help, but it will take an hour or so to do, its 12 pages i think. its very well organized so if you a newb at tweaking it explains everything perfectly so you know what your doing to your computer. have fun.
also check this out http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html its a guide made in adobe acrobot, like 180 pages or something. teaches you a lot (credit to armedkiller)
Site looks nice, and I agree, deleting the prefetch does no good (unless you think saving 1MB of HD space is good :P ), it only increases app start times.
At least Dagley doesn't take credit from other people's work. He actually wrote an article by himself to help people out. And I'm sure dagley knows his stuff
"sit on your hand for a few hours till you dont feel it anymore, then use it, pwns" -Lango
I want to know the increase on performace after someone has done this full guide, please post back here on how much it helped in game (preferably CSS) :D
#13 it is FALSE. not everything in their is false, you are just dumb.
why would you believe his guide? he already lied about his teams and his exp. so your going to listen to a poser about tweaking your system? oh please buddy, go read the gotfrag post where he posted the guide, most of the posts people complain about how it made conditions worse on their comp. pz~
#1 IS COMPLETELY CORRECT. "i hope you didn't do them. half of the info in it is 100% false. the services he tells you disable will cause you to have to configure your internet manually through network options for it to even work and it disables services most need." This is exactly what happened to me, I ended up having to reset everything. I was however dumb enough to try and redo the guide just without that section. It made xp look mediocre and the same with all games but had minimal performance increase. And my system was pretty bad then, so I did need the help.
Actually Dagley's guide has a bunch of "un-verified tweaks." Most actually hurt your computer more than they will help. Also for some other parts of it to get the full extent of the tweak you would need to know a lot more than just want he had.
